What’s funny about Marilyn’s “funny” statement is that she did such a good job of keeping this side of herself hidden. She had the public completely convinced that the “real” Marilyn was more about her other side which was a blonde bodacious bombshell who said, “Hollywood is a place where they’ll pay a thousand dollars for a kiss and fifty cents for your soul.”

Marilyn wasn’t exactly known as the kind of girl who would have ranked “sense of humor” as one of the top qualities she would look for in a man. Remember, she’s the chick who flashed us with her blowing white skirt while standing on the subway grate in that famous scene from “The Seven Year Itch.”

You would never know she enjoyed light-hearted comedy since she was probably best known for two things: 1) singing “Happy Birthday” to President John F. Kennedy and 2) being found naked and dead in bed.

After researching her famous quotes, it almost seems as if she was a little bitter about being a gorgeous blonde sex symbol. She wasn’t afraid to speak up about it either. “It takes a smart brunette to play a dumb blonde,” she once said. And it also doesn’t take a genius to figure out that she was probably talking about herself.

She once said, “Everyone’s just laughing at me. I hate it. Big breasts, big ass, big deal, Can’t I be anything else? Gee, how long can you be sexy?” Ouch, Marilyn. Simmer down there girl…

Personally I’m a little surprised about Marilyn’s well-hidden sharp tongue. She did such a good job of coming acrossed as soft (really soft) and sweet and sexy and untouchable. But after reading some of her other quotes, I feel like I want to belly up to the bar and throw back some shots with her! She’s a lot more like Mae West than we ever gave her credit for!

Thinking back, I know of the time and place in my mind when it just “clicked” for me and I realized that I felt sexy. When this happened I felt myself walk differently and move differently, and I know this made me look and act more confident because men seemed to notice me more, and they made comments about me being sexy which then made me feel more confident.

And thinking about other people who are confident about a lot of things – how smart they are, how good they are at sports, and how much money they make – they might still lack sex appeal.

What I’m wondering is, if you’ve got one before you have the other – confidence vs. sex appeal – will the other one automatically just “show up” one day?

Will the genius guy who makes lots of money and plays basketball and works out 4 times a week who doesn’t feel like women are attracted to him be able to one day suddenly feel attractive and sexy? Can he be convinced that he’s as appealing to women as he is to his employer’s bottom line? Or is he screwed (figuratively, of course.)

Or is it more likely that the man who feels sexy to women already will have confidence (already) and then that confidence will move into other areas (his work and his athletic performance and more?)

It’s an interesting question and one that might be fun to observe. Scientists have been debating the chicken and the egg theory for a long time, and when they’re finished maybe they can move on to confidence versus sex appeal, which might be just a bit more fun. I know which one I’d rather study.

After being bombarded by tons of pictures of guys’ two inch penises (yes, even the huge guys look like they’re two inches on an iphone or a Droid), and subjected to the most ridiculous Facebook messages that even a 13 year-old coming out of his first wet dream wouldn’t even think of writing, I have decided I have about a zero shock factor.

It’s funny to think there was a time when everyone was worried that MTV and all its “racy” videos would ruin everyone’s perception of sexuality — well, Facebook and sexting killed that one, didn’t they?

With one snap of a pic and a quick little send you’re suddenly intimate with a perfect stranger in as much time as it takes for you to click “open” or get a good signal.

So gone are the days of “less is more” and “enticement” and “the art of seduction.” Now it’s just hang out with your wang out, or jam out with your clam out, or the most obvious, rock out with your cock out.

It just seems like after we’re done doing all that hanging, jamming and rocking, most of us aren’t interested in keeping things on the down-low or going under cover anymore, which is where most of the fun really takes place — not on an iphone or a laptop!

When sexy can be used to describe a cologne, a glance, a dress, or a movement, let’s face it – sexy can be just about anything.

“Sexy is about who you are as a person,” said Monica Mitro, spokesperson for “>Victoria Secret. So it’s obviously more than skin deep; it’s in the eyes of the beholder and it’s something that makes you stand up and take notice.

After reading this little medical marvel, I might consider giving up my vitamins, low fat diet, regular “good nights rest”, and exercise program. Perhaps the answers to a long, happy life all lie between the sheets?
